18th September 2011
We're all counting down to the National Finals in a week, after
a mammoth series of 4 training sessions over the last week, we all
have just two sessions left, on Monday and Wednesday, to make
a difference. Nationals should be so much more comfortable this
year as we have hired proper marquees for the weekend, you watch
the weather will be great with no wind (I mean no real wind rather
than no BDA wind) or rain . . . here's hoping. Lets all make sure
the results warrant all the hard work we have all put in all
season.
7th September 2011
Following the last committee meeting of the year for the
current committee members, and following some enquiries we have
made during the season, we are planning on running a long
distance race event over the winter in either February or March
2012. We obviously need to make sure we don't clash with the Henley
winter series and the exact date will be confirmed nearer the time.
The plan is to race from the clubhouse all the way up to Clifton
Bridge, round a buoy, then all the way down to the sailing club,
round another buoy and to the finish in front of the clubhouse. In
all that should be about 15km, now there's something to train for
over the winter, we should be entering two teams really.

It has just been confirmed by the BDA that the 2012 European
Dragon Boat Championships will be held at the National Watersports
Centre, Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham in late July 2012. They were
due to be held at Preston but the venue has been changed to
Nottingham which is great for us as it's just down the road and
what a coup for Nottingham.
5th September 2011
Following yesterdays great successes at Milton Keynes for both
Challengers and Anaconda, we can confirm that this has been the
most successful season in the clubs history for many many years. It
is still to be confirmed by the BDA but by our resident Statto, Rob
Brown, reckons that Anaconda have secured 3rd place in the Premier
Division for 200m and 5th place in the Premier Division for 500m.
Challengers have finished the season in 8th place in the Standard
Division for both the 200m and 500m events.

After what seems like a huge break, we're back to racing on
Sunday. We all truck on down to Worcester on Sunday for the
penultimate BDA National League Event. It promises to be a busy day
with 21 teams competing, including many 2nd boats, in 3 boat racing
on the river at Worcester.

20th June 2011
It was off to Preston yesterday for a days hard racing in mixed
conditions. The 200m races were flat calm but the 500m races, out
in the main open docks area, were much more interesting. With a
relatively strong wind, lane 3 and to a certain extent lane 2
were like the open sea. In the end we came 3rd overall in the 200m
and 8th overall in the 500m racing, which maintains our exceptional
start to our first season back in the premier division for many
years.

6th June 2011
What a days racing we had yesterday. Racing in our home event
with high hopes we raced two full boats and only went and won the
200m event and came 3rd in the 500m overall, two major finals in
one day, I must be dreaming !!!

2 May 2011
After what can only be described as racing in some very
'interesting' conditions, especially for the first timers amongst
us, we returned safe and well from a very windy London race.

What a day's racing we had yesterday at Teesside and what a
great introduction to the world of Dragon Boat Racing for our
newest members, many of whom have been dragon boating for
only four weeks!

Dragon Boating is very entwined with Chinese culture, and what
better than a Chinese New Year celebration. Notts Anaconda will be
at the University of Nottingham's Lakeside Arts Centre at
Highfields Park taking part in their Chinese New Year celebrations
on 6th February to welcome the Year of the Rabbit. If you want to
learn more about dragon boating or meet some of the crew, come down
and see us between 12 and 6.30pm.
It will also be an important day for the club as it will be the
first public outing for our new racing boat prior to the 2011 BDA
National League Season.
